Monastery Administration for Buddhism Stability

Abstract

 The objectives of this research were (1) to study concepts, theories, Buddhadhamma and monastery administrative principles of Thai Sangha, (2) to analytically study the condition and problems and obstacles of monastery administration of Thai Sangha region 15 and (3) to propose the monastery administration for Buddhism stability.

The methodology was the qualitative research, collecting data from related texts and researches and 25 key informants by in-depth-interview and focus group discussion with 10 participants. Data were analyzed by the descriptive interpretation.
The Findings of Research were as follows :
1. The administration of monasteries of Thai Sangha in the current situation age, Sangha administrative monks must have to develop the technologies, integrated with Buddhadhamma and modernization, having the rules of law, regulations to uphold the Buddhism. Style of monasteries administration had the different form from the past, such as administration, propagation, education, educational welfare, social welfare and Public had become clearer. So the concepts, theories of monasteries administration had the big roles in supporting Buddhism effectively and efficiently. Therefore, the leaders in the monastery administration had to have visions, knowledge, competency, sacrifice, accepted the others’ opinions and well behave, well accepted by Sangha order and society. More importantly, He must be the honest administrators without bias. He strongly confirms with Brahmavihara. Monasteries which are the core centers of monks and Buddhism would become stable and prosperous.
2. The monastery administration of Sangha region 15, had 7 important aspects as system and pattern of monastery administration, problems of leaders in monastery administration, management of personnel for monastery administration, problems of

budget, technology and materials, environment, old stupas, Buddhist art objects, buildings, natural landscape and the problems of relationship with community and state agencies. These were the big problems of Sangha administration for the monasteries and Sangha Orders in region 15.
3. Monastery administration for Buddhism stability of Thai Sangha, region 15 in Sangha Affairs Administration for six aspects are 1) Administration, 2) Religious Education, 3) Propagation, 4) Educational Welfare, 5) Constructions, 6) Public Welfare, and proposed as 5M’s model such as (1) M1 : Man, (2) M2 : Money, (3) M3 : Materials, (4) M4 : Management , (5) M1 : Morality. These are the appropriate and effective monastery administration. It was up to the abbots who were the forefront administrators to manage the monasteries in different aspects. Abbots were the first leaders and important factors to lead the Sangha organizations towards the goals of success. Because the abbots play the major roles in the decision making, set up the policy and personnel administration in the organization to work efficiently. For the work of personnel must have the harmony and work along with the relationship between leaders and followers. The abbots have the task for monastery administration due to the power of abbots from missions of Sangha order for 6 aspects such as administration, Buddhist propagation, religious education, educational welfare, constructions and public welfare. Abbots have the special ability individually for the leadership, have the process and method for making the relation with community, including have the self-development perfectly and Dhamma Vinaya, will effect directly to faith and belief of Buddhism that will help the religious practice to archive the objectives easily. The abbots must have the tasks with the responsibility to monastery administration in all aspects by monks and novices in the temple got the education and practice with full ability for creating efficiency that along with the religion department mentioned that monastery management is the administration for command, control, introduction, teaching the monks, novices and lay men in the temple to have the disciplines, morality and projects activity proceeding of temples to the success with maximum efficiency. The abbots must have the task with responsibility to monastery administration in all sides by giving every monk and novice in the monasteries to have an education and practice with full ability and have the maximum efficiency. The good quality monastery administration is the principle to make Buddhism stability sustainably.
